My teams weekend wrap-up...

The Capitals were down 4-1 at one point on this fine Sunday. 4-1!!!! When is the last time that happened??? The Reds ended the day losing 5-3...that sucks. Ovi marked up his 100th point on the season & still managed to be the second star of the game...ridonkulous!

The Penguins had a fabulous weekend...owning the Flyers on Saturday 4-1, & winning a shootout thriller against the MapleLeafs on Sunday. Hell of a way to bounce back from that loss against Washington on Wednesday.

The Panthers ended their Canadian road trip with a loss to the Ottawa Senators. I can't believe I'm actually going to say this but...BRING CLEMMENSEN BACK!!!

Photo Blurb: David Booth

Florida Panther, David Booth, looks like he just walked off the set of a 70's TV show in this shot and I love it.
During Thursdays game against the Canadiens Booth was hit hard and went down. He literally hobbled off the ice, not able to keep his balance, and was taken to a local hospital. He's already back in South Florida but it is still unsure how long he will be out and if he'll come back at all.
Booth suffered an extremely hard hit early in the season where he was knocked out by Flyers captain Mike Richards. The hard hit knocked him out to the point that he slid across the ice like a ragdoll and just lay motionless. The Cats will be taking extra percaution now with Booth because once you have such a severe concussion you are easily succesible to another.

See... He's really not that bad.

Pens fall to the Reds for the third time...

The Pens put up one hell of a fight tonight, but unfortunately that wasn't enough. The Caps prevailed in an overtime shoot-out. Jordan Staal scored a fantastic goal in the closing minutes of the 3rd period to tie it three-all, but in the end Fleury's goaltending did the Penguins in. Letang and Crosby scored Pittsburgh's first 2 goals in the shoot-out, but Ovechkin, Semin & Knuble put the lid on it for the Reds. All-in-all it was an amazing playoff atmosphere game, nothing short of disappointing. These teams have one more regular season meeting in a couple of weeks on April 6th...will the Penguins finally beat them? Maybe in this case fourth time is a charm...

No Go For The Pens

Although they put up a good fight tonight the Penguins could not defeat the Capitals. The first goal of the night was scored by Mike Knuble of the Capitals with an assist from Alex Ovechkin and Nicholas Backstrom. Max Talbot tied up the game with assists from Brooks Orpik and Craig Adams followed by another Pens goal by Bill Guerin assisted by Sidney Crosby and Alexei Ponikarovsky. There was a possiblity that it would be smooth sailing after that for the Pens but the Caps would never let that happen.
Semin and Fehr each scored goals in the third, the Caps pulling ahead, but Jordan Staal smacked one in to tie the game. There was no score in overtime and thus the shootout began. Kris Letang and Sidney Crosby put their pucks into the net but Bill Guerin missed his. Although Backstrom missed his goal Ovechkin and Semin didn't, forcing the shootout to go on to another turn. Kunitz failed to make anything of his goal and then came along Mike Knuble (who by the way has NEVER scored a shootout goal) to win the game for the Caps.
Shame shame. We thought maybe the Penguins were going to show up the Caps but no such luck.
The Capitals will be in Carolina tomorrow for a game against the Canes and the Pens are on break until Saturday when they take on Chris Pronger and the Flyers at Mellon Arena.

Well that's all for tonight folks. See you tomorrow for more hockey blah blah BLAH.

Brooksy Out For Tonights Game

Prepare to cry ladies, Brooks Laich will not be playing in tonights match-up between the Pens and the Caps. Brooks took a puck to the face after fellow teammate John Carlson unleashed a shot that went off the crossbar. Brooks immediately skated to the bench and was taken to the hospital where he got sutures and got x-rays taken. There was a possibility that he would play today but unfortunately he will not.
Brooks hasn't missed a game in three seasons so this will probably put a damper on his season, not to mention he is sitting out a much anticipated game.
Go back to Hershey Johnny! You are not welcome here... Just kidding.

The day has arrived...

Finally! My game of the week is here!!! While watching the Cats make it two-in-a-row last night & witnessing the utter STUD-ness of he who we call Niemi show the Coyotes who the boss is...the Capitals & Penguins finally square off tonight! Though I am saddened that both Brooks Laich & Evegni Malkin will not be playing due to injury, it is always fun to watch the Crosby & Ovechkin show...who will be crowned victorious...we shall have our answer in a few short hours!

Ovi & Sid playing nice...yeah right!

Such A Bummer

Last night the Pens fell to the Wings in a 3-1 game. The Wings took an early lead in the first period then added to it by one in the second. The Pend had a moment of ecietment when Pascal Dupuis got one by Howard but thus they would not score anymore. Zetterberg locked it up in the third with his second goal of the night making him the number one star of the game.
This game didn't mix it up too much but we sure are anticipating Wednesday's Capitals vs. Penguins game.

so close! & yet...

bff's Malkin + Ovechkin go at it
will Geno make an appearance on Wednesday?!?!

sidenote:
Panthers have jumped from 14th to 11th in the East!!!
Is it too little too late?!?!

Payback???

The Penguins paid a visit to Boston on Thursday night to take on the Bruins & we all know what was on everyones mind...payback! How much blood would the boys from Boston want for the hit Cooke laid on Savard back in early March??? Apparently one fight was enough, as soon as Cooke hit the ice the boo's ensude, & not long after that the gloves came off. One of Boston's tough guys Shawn Thorton was out to hunt. The fight, to say the least, was pretty sweet. Thorton laid it on pretty hard & all seemed to be squared between the two teams (the crowd didn't let Cooke forget it all night). But Boston knew they had to show up big, holding on for dear life to the 8th & final playoff spot in the East they had to concentrate more on hockey than redemption. In the end however, the Pens just out played the Bruins & they finished them off 3-0. Fleury finally had his first shut out of the season.

The Washington Capitals on the other hand weren't so lucky. Even Corvo's 2 goals against his former team weren't enough. They fell to the Carolina Hurricanes 4-3 in OT. Could they possibly be missing Ovechkin?!?! No need to worry, Alex the Great will be back in the line-up for Saturday's game against the Tampa Bay Lightning...do we think he learned his lesson...doubt it!

My only mentions of the Panthers tonight...we lost a 3-0 within the last 10 minutes of the 3rd, & then went on to lose in a shoot out. So pitiful.

Anaheim's James Wisniewski was suspended 8 games for his hit on the BlackHawks' Brent Seabrook on Wednesday night. Excessive? Absolutely not. Wisniewski is a repeat offender (taking after Ovi maybe?). I saw that hit...it was filthy nasty dirty...I'd suspend him for the rest of the season. Seabrook was back at practice today...thankfully.

And to round out this post...it will be Staal v. Staal on Saturday afternoon in Pittsburgh. Big brother Eric will be in town with his Hurricanes to take on Jordan & the Pens. Who will be the victor? Only time will tell...

Video of the Day: Craig Adams Dirty Hit on Alex Ovechkin

Quick Photo Blurb...Brooks Laich

Oh shnap. This photo makes me want to swim in a sea of Brooks Laich's and forget all about the kid named Sid. Thanks Sportsbee for posting this absolutely FAMAZING photo.

No Ovechkin, No Problem

Who said the Capitals need Ovechkin to win? I definitely didn't. Although I LOVE the Russian bad boy I must admit that his team killed the Florida Panthers tonight in a 7-3 game. I love my home team but the Panthers got raped tonight and they deserved it. They were lazy and slow tonight and made absolutely no impression on me while the Caps totally shined.
Kudos to #1 star of the night Brooks Laich who scored 2 goals.
As great as the game was though it would have been even better to have had Ovechkin there. There will always be a next time though.
Enjoy super UP CLOSE photos of the Capitals during their warm-up.

Ovechkin Who???

Washington Capitals 7 - Florida Panthers 3

That should pretty much sum up tonight's game.
They ripped us a new one.
None of the Panthers showed up to play.
Brooks Laich had 2 goals, 1 assist & 8 shots on goal...stud.
My prescence either severly handicapped the Cats or I'm a good luck charm for the Caps...I'm going with the latter :).

With Ovechkin out for 2 games due to his hit on the BlackHawks Brian Campbell on Sunday one might have thought the Caps would struggle. The complete opposite has been shown. If they play this good without 'The Great 8', imagine them at full strength when he comes back Saturday against Tampa. Can anyone stop the Reds?

UGHHHH! WHY?!

It's amazing how one stupid survey at work sends the entire facility into a frenzy! Sorry for non-updatingness but it ends now.

Let's talk about important things now like Ovi getting suspended for two games... :(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:( x infinity!
Tomorrow I am going to the Panthers vs. Capitals game and I was super excited about seeing Ovechkin play but alas he has been suspended for a dumb little hit. (Ok maybe it wasn't little but why couldn't they at least wait until after they played the Panthers?!). I could go on forever but I'll cut the Ovechkin rant here.

In other news:
Geno Malkin's foot is OK! After getting hit by his own teammate Kris Letang at their game against the Lightning Malkin left the game with hopes of his foot not being broken and it wasn't. Snap snaps for Malkin and the Pens!

I was supposed to post about Cory Stillman's shootout goal against the Wild immediately after the game but I got tied up so here is your shout out Cory! Kudos to him for scoring the game-tie goal and game winning goal!

Sidney Crosby... Well there really isn't anything new to say about him so I'll just go with the usual: Sidney Crosby is perfect in every single possible way :). Keep it perfect Sid <3.

Super Weekend!!!

The Panthers beat the Western conference leading Sharks on Saturday with an OT goal by Bryan Allen. Keith Ballard, Shawn Mathias, & Allen were the 3 heroes for the Cats scoring the 3 goals that helped the boys come back from a 2-goal deficit. When the 'boys from the South' are on, by god they are really on, amazing play. The Cats finish off their road trip with a 2-1 record & head into Tuesday nights game against a beyond amazing Washington Capitals team.

Speaking of the Capitals...

Sundays game of the week on NBC between the Capitals & BlackHawks was one of the best games I have seen all season. The young Hawks squad came out strong scoring 3 goals in the 1st two periods, & everything definitely seemed like it was lost for the Reds. Antti Niemi seemed almost God-like with some of the most amazing saves I have ever seen. I have a feeling the BlackHawks are going to be playing well into June. But a little luck & a hell of a lot of talent helped the Capitals score the 3 goals they needed to catch up. Laich, Backstrom & Fehr all scored in the 1st ten minutes of the period, & Backstrom sealed the deal with a goal in OT. The Capitals showed that all is not lost without Alexander Ovechkin, Ovi was ejected from the game in the 1st period for a nasty push into the boards on Brian Campbell. The great one knew the punishment was going to be bad as soon as he laid the hit on Campbell...does this mean he's learned his lesson? Doubt, his arrogance will eventually be his demise.

Tidbit: Jordan Staal's cutest face ever! (Broken nose & all)

Crappy Friday for my boys...

Once again, in light of the Caps & Pens both losing on Friday night, I'm opting to post a couple of videos that are so much sweeter on the eyes.

Mike Green...

& of course Brooks Laich...

Pittsburgh is winless against New Jersey this season, falling 3-1 in their second to last meeting of the season. They'll have a chance at redemption this week. & I'm still not sure how Washington could lose to Tamps Bay 3-2. Bad bad night for my teams =/. The Panthers in San Jose for an early game today, hopefully they can bounce back from Thursdays loss.

The Staal Brothers :)

This is so much nicer to post than to talk about how the Panthers lost to the Avalanche on Thursday night...

Capitals top Hurricanes in OT thriller

Two goals from Caps defenseman Mike Green helped the team come back from a loss Monday night to beat the Carolina Hurricanes on Wednesday night. Carolina put up a good fight coming back to tie the game 3-3 in the second. But the Reds sealed the deal with an OT goal from Toman Fleischmann. Manny Legace (the goalie with the coolest last name in the game) put up one hell of a fight against Ovi and his boys, but lack of defense prevented the Hurricanes from continuing their hot streak. No worries though...they'll have a chance at redemption next week. Will justice be served? I hope so...only for Eric Staal's sake (always rooting for my favorite hockey family).

The Panthers visit the Avalanche tomorrow night...I cringe at the thought of going 4-for-4...but I wan't it so bad! Praying starts now!

Still the Man!

The star of the night for the Florida Panthers tonight against the Wild...well it's none other than Cory Stillman. He's still got it! The Cats started off slow allowing 2 goals in the first period, & not being able to put one in the net until early in the 3rd when Frolik netted a sweet snap shot. Stillman tied it at 2-all halfway through the 3rd, and from then on it was all Panthers. The game remained tied through overtime & then it was shootout time. Vokoun denied the Wild in their own house & Stillman put in the Cats 3rd round shot to close the books. This marks win number 3 for the Panthers with their next game at the Avalanche on Thursday night. Dare I dream for 4-in-a-row...I can't...but I desperately want to.

Side-note:
During the 1st intermission of the game they had a special feature on nicknames for the boys on the team. Captain Bryan McCabe was asked about some of the ones he had heard throughout his career & with a smirk he replied how it wouldn't be appropriate to say them on camera. (God damn I love him) So for your pleasure...the Panthers nicknames:

McCabe - Caber
Ballard - Bally
Weiss - Weisser
Horton - Horty
Clemmenson - Clemmer
Allen -Ally
Campbell - Soupy
Dvorak -D’Bo
Reinprecht - Rhino
Matthias - Danger
Booth -Boothy
Vokoun - Vokie
Stillman - Stiller

Seriously?!?! The Dallas Stars?!?!

Out of all the teams that could have possibly beat the Capitals at home, the Dallas Stars were finally the team to end their 13-game winning streak. The Dallas Stars! The team who just got reamed by the Penguins a few days ago! Unacceptable! I'm still trying to wrap my head around how this could happen. The Capitals went into the 3rd period up 2-0 and within 8 minutes were down 3-2. The Capitals outshot them, they played more aggressively...How did they lose??? Arguably the best team in the NHL right now letting a team that isn't even in a playoff spot beat them! All seemed to fall into place when Ovechkin (of course) tied the game, but the Capitals were shutout in the shootout...& that was all she wrote. Maybe the Caps needed a loss at home to come back down to earth.

Carolina will be the next team to take the Reds on their home ice on Wednesday night. Hopefully they'll come back with a win...even though one of my Staal boys is the captain for the Hurricanes. So I'll be cheering for the Capitals...& Eric Staal :).

Baseball is in the air...

With less than 30 days until opening day, the excitement for this upcoming baseball season is taking over. And what a better way to start off the season than with a Red Sox v. Yankees game. That'll get the viewers in.

Though  admit my love for the game of baseball had faded into the background, the 2009 season brought it back full force. (Has anyone seen Joe Mauer...GD!) My most epic moment of this upcoming season will be my trip up to Boston for my first game ever at Fenway. Thirty-nine days & counting & it can't get here soon enough.

As opening day approaches the baseball buzz will increase...I can't fucking wait.

Hawks fall to the Red Wings

In what was sure to be a playoff like atmosphere in the United Center, Sunday's game between the Blackhawks & Red Wings didn't disappoint.  While Chicago is a shoo-in for the playoffs, Detroit is among the teams fighting for that number 8 spot in a very competitive western conference. In the end the Red Wings prevailed winning 5-4, coming back from a 2 goal deficit. The goalies didn't impress, but both defenses played their heart out.

The crowd in the United Center was utterly insane, what I would give for an atmosphere like that at a Panthers game. One can only dream. Ladd had his first career hat trick, with stud Duncan Keith scoring the Hawks only other goal. Maybe if Patrick Kane kept his mouth guard in his mouth he wouldn't be so distracted playing with it and would have made more of a difference.

Boston & Pittburgh are dancing as we speak tied 1-all in the second period. I'm hoping the Pens extended their win-streak to 4.

The Cats don't play until Tuesday night up in Minnesota, & if they play how they've played their last 2 games out, they shouldn't have a problem extending their streak to 3.

And now a little eye candy on this fine Sunday afternoon...

Brooks Laich :)

Keith Ballard :)

Jordan Staal :)
